Free ATS Resume Checker

Applicant Tracking Systems parse your resume into fields and let recruiters search candidates. Our checker scores completeness and clarity—not a mystical black-box “pass/fail.” Use it to catch missing contact details, thin bullets, and weak section coverage before you apply.

What an ATS actually does

Most ATS platforms are databases with parsers and search tools. When you upload a PDF or DOCX, the system tries to map your name, contact info, employers, dates, and skills into structured fields. Recruiters then filter by keywords, years of experience, location, or education—not by a secret “score” that rejects you for using Calibri.

Optimization means making those fields easy to extract and easy to find. Fancy layouts that look great on a custom portfolio often scramble reading order or hide text in graphics. Clean section headings and plain bullets survive parsing and still look professional when a human opens the file.

What we score in the builder

  • Contact details (name, email, phone)
  • Professional summary length and presence
  • Experience entries and quantified achievements
  • Skills breadth and education
  • Projects, languages, or certifications when relevant
  • Pro: keyword overlap against a pasted job description for deeper matching tips

How to use the checker

  1. Open the builder and fill your resume—or paste plain text with the import tool.
  2. Watch the live ATS panel. Fix failed checks: add missing contact fields, tighten the summary, and rewrite vague bullets with numbers.
  3. Export a text-selectable PDF. Copy-paste it into Notepad; if order is scrambled, simplify the template.
  4. Tailor the top third of the resume to each priority posting before you apply.

Common ATS mistakes to avoid

Skill bars, icon-only contact rows, and text inside images are invisible to many parsers. Tables used for your entire layout can reorder columns unpredictably. Headers and footers sometimes get skipped—keep phone and email in the main body.

Keyword stuffing is equally risky. Mirror the employer’s language only where you have real evidence. Recruiters notice nonsense strings, and interviews expose inflated claims quickly.

After you pass the checklist

A clean parse gets you into the searchable pile. Clear, quantified stories get you the interview. Pair this checker with our ATS optimization guide and role-specific examples below, then keep iterating after every few applications.
